The zoo is home to big animals and small ones. Some are unusual, others are funny, but all of them are WONDERFUL!

Why become a donor or adopter of an animal at the zoo?

First and foremost, because in this way you help us take care of the animals, a task that requires not only exceptional dedication and professionalism from our keepers but also significant financial resources. Donors and adopters can receive information about the animals they support, visit them, and meet their keepers. For safety reasons, access to the enclosures and direct contact with the adopted animals is not provided. Every donor or adopter receives a special CERTIFICATE with a photo of the animal they have adopted.

 
 
 
What are the funds from our donation programme used for?

The funds received through our donation programme are used primarily to improve animal welfare, enrich their environment, and provide living conditions that are as close as possible to their natural habitats. Donations may be made in the form of financial contributions as well as goods, materials, and services.

 
 
 
Who can become a donor or adopter?

Donors/adopters of Sofia Zoo may be both natural persons and legal entities. Donors must be adults and have no criminal convictions.

Is there a difference between a donor and an adopter of an animal?

Yes, there is a difference. Adopters are those donors—both individuals and legal entities—who commit to supporting the care of a specific animal or animals at Sofia Zoo for a longer period (e.g. 6 or 12 months). At the adopter’s request and at their own expense, they may order or produce a plaque displaying their name and/or logo along with the name of the adopted animal; the zoo can provide a template and size specifications.

What documents are required to become a donor or adopter of an animal?

In accordance with the requirements of the Ordinance on the Procedure for Receiving and Managing Donations by Sofia Municipality, adopted by Decision No. 76 under Protocol No. 99 of 08.02.2007 of the Sofia Municipal Council, all donors/adopters are required to complete a standard set of donation documents, which includes:

  1. Donation Application – 1 (one) copy;

  2. Declaration – 1 (one) copy;

  3. Donation Agreement for goods/financial funds from a legal entity or an individual – 2 (two) copies.

With all animal ADOPTERS, an Agreement for Providing Additional Care for the respective animal(s) is concluded for the duration of the adoption. This agreement is not a legal document. The administrative staff of Sofia Zoo provides assistance to all donors/adopters in completing the required documents, which takes approximately 15 minutes.

Financial donations may be transferred by bank transfer or paid on site at the zoo’s cashier desk. When donations are made in the form of goods, materials, and/or services, supporting documents (cash receipt, invoice) certifying their value must be provided.
