Sofia Zoo is a nature conservation center whose main mission is to work for the protection of rare and endangered species, to promote knowledge about the planet’s biodiversity and to instill respect for animals in the public.

When visiting the zoo, people have a unique chance to have unforgettable and emotional close encounters with animals from all over the world. This makes the zoo a unique and very suitable place for communicating with the public and presenting the problem of biodiversity loss and threats to it. Therefore, the zoo conducts nature conservation and information campaigns for the general public. Some of them are dedicated to specific species such as World Rhinoceros Day, Jaguar Day, Elephant Day, Vulture Day, etc. Other campaigns are related to international days such as Biodiversity Day, Wetlands Day, etc. As a member of the European Association of Zoos and Aquariums, Sofia Zoo also participates in special conservation campaigns organized by the association. They are related to the conservation of different groups of animals, specific habitats, or the preservation of the biodiversity of a given region.
