Environmental campaigns
Sofia Zoo, as a member of the European Association of Zoos and Aquariums (EAZA), is participating in the EAZA conservation campaign for 2024-2025, called Vietnamazing. The focus of the campaign is on unique and endangered animal species found in Vietnam, and its goal is to build a conservation network to help protect this biodiversity hotspot. Vietnam has an incredibly rich biodiversity, but many plant and animal species are facing extinction due to poaching and habitat loss related to the economic boom in recent decades and the military situation in the region.
The campaign logo is composed of the silhouettes of four different animal species with a high degree of threat in Vietnam, which together form a single face. The four species are: northern white-cheeked gibbon, Vietnamese fire-cross pheasant, Sewellia lineolata – a fish from the Gould family and Vietnamese crocodile salamander – a species of amphibian from the Salamander family. The colors of the logo were also not chosen by chance – they are the colors of the Vietnamese flag.
In this exciting Vietnamese adventure, visitors to Sofia Zoo will learn interesting facts about the endangered animals of Vietnam. The topic of endangered Vietnamese biodiversity is included in the zoo’s educational programs and in the content of our Facebook page. The information materials of this international campaign are available to visitors in Bulgarian.
