The Summer Zoo School is a program that has been held since 1998 during the months of June and July in the building of the Ecological Center and on the territory of the zoo. Each group consists of 20 children and has classes for 5 days (from Monday to Friday) from 10 am to 4 pm according to a specially created program for environmental education in zoo conditions.

The concept and program for the Summer Zoo School were created by the team of the Ecological Center. They were developed for two age groups – for children from 7 to 9 years old and for children from 10 to 12 years old. Participants who have reached the age of 7 must have completed the 1st grade and have school habits. There are also specially created study notebooks with colorful illustrations for both programs.

The five-day program is unique in content and can be implemented only in the conditions of the Sofia Zoo. It was created based on the experience and developments of similar educational centers in zoos around the world and is based on non-standard and fun methods of presenting information, including many games, opportunities for creative expression, and individual and group activities. An integral part of the curriculum is contact with and care for the animals in the Ecological Center.
